Overview
Pompeii is one of the largest and most visited archeological sites in Italy. It is an ancient city in southern Italy, in the region of Campania that was completely buried by the dust and ash that descended upon it when Mount Vesuvius erupted on August 24th, 79, A.D. and remained covered until 1748, when it was rediscovered by archaelogists who to date continue to work on this incredible archeological site.
But reading about the destruction of Pompeii (or Herculaneum or Stabaie which were also obliterated by the eruption), or even seeing pictures of the now excavated city, does not prepare one for the impact of standing in the midst of its ruins, or looking at the bodies of the dead, frozen in last moments of horror.
Whether you decide to visit Pompeii on your own or decide to visit with a tour, we strongly recommend you having a guide in this site particularly even if you don`t have one in any other, it is well worth it.
There are various guided tours we offer to Pompeii that you can see the links to below, however to really understand Pompeii and what happened here, we highly recommend you visiting Mt. Vesuvius which is one of the largest Volcanic Craters in Europe and also visiting Heraculaneum, the sea-side village along the coast that will reveal to you in person just how far the lava from the crater spread. It was an enormous explosion that touched the lives of an entire society and killed one of the most remarkable ancient cultures man-kind has ever known.
