Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for early risers to experience the Vatican Museums before the crowds arrive. You will be picked up from your hotel before 7:00 AM to meet your guide and enter the museum at 7.15 AM. Your guide will take you through the various collections of the museum, including the ancient sculptures that formed the original collection of Pope Julius II in the Belvedere Courtyard, the Hall of the Maps, the Hall of the Tapestries, the Raphael Rooms, and the Sistine Chapel.

Afterward, you can exit straight into St. Peter's without waiting in line, as the basilica is bathed in the morning sunlight. You will learn about the story of this incredible building, which was constructed over 120 years by the most creative minds of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, including Michelangelo, whose stunning Pietà is housed here, and Bernini, who influenced the appearance of St. Peter's more than any other artist. His artistic vision is also felt outside in the massive square he designed to draw pilgrims towards the church, where your tour will come to an end.
